I'm Sarah. Wife, mother, certified birth doula, prenatal and postpartum yoga teacher. After spending a few years in the Boulder, Colorado area, my husband Kevin and I have finally settled back in our home state of Virginia! Our family has grown over the last few years and we are so fortunate to call 2 precious little boys our own!

Spending years as a vinyasa yoga teacher, I felt a strong pull towards a population of students that I knew, through my own personal experience, needed special instruction and care. Going through prenatal yoga teacher training opened my eyes to the world of birth work. As I began to teach prenatal yoga within my community, I quickly learned of the joy and fulfillment that came along with supporting expectant mamas through class and conversation. I decided with ease to dive deeper into the world of birth work and become a trained birth doula. I now have the great fortune of not only experiencing motherhood first hand but I also have the incredible opportunity to witness my yoga students and doula clients experience it for themselves.

Through my yoga training I have learned that I may at times be the teacher but I know for certain that I will always be the student. I feel so fortunate and eager to be a student of the joy-filled, fascinating, and ever-rewarding world of birth work. Each client, their families and their births provides me the opportunity to learn something new about my profession and about human connection. I can't think of a greater honor than to witness the birth of a child, a mother, a father and a family.

Tranquil Space Yoga Studio, September 2017

This training focused on addressing the specific needs of a postpartum body and how to modify a yoga class to accommodate moms in their first year of childbirth recovery. The training included a thorough review of female anatomy with focus on the core muscles involved in pregnancy and birth and how to ensure pelvic and abdominal integrity postpartum. We also took time to learn how to provide a nurturing and accommodating class for moms that need the sacred space to connect with and appreciate themselves.
